Welcome to Debra Rapp photography. My approach is to produce informal, happy, naturalistic, portrait photographs of children and families in their home environment.

How I work
I work in a very straightforward way and often the questions asked by my clients are very similar. Here are some of your questions and my answers:

Where do you photograph?
I work in people's homes and will come to you if you live anywhere in and around the London area. I try to arrive in the morning so that we can continue shooting for as long as necessary. Or, if you or your children prefer, I am happy to come after lunch before the light fades.

How long does it take?
A session is approximately two hours long. We will have time to change out of outfits and have tea breaks for you and the kids. Any longer and the smiles become a little forced. The idea is that you and your children can relax and have fun, as this atmosphere will produce the photos that you cherish the most.

Indoor or outside?
My preferred style is to use natural lighting and to get outdoors: to the garden, park, or simply to stand by an open window. Don't worry about grey, overcast days as this often can provide the best kind of soft light. I will also bring my backdrops if you would like some 'studio'-style indoor shots. This does depend on the amount of space you have at home.

What kind of camera?
I use digital cameras and analogue 35mm and medium-format film. The digital is the most interactive as we can discuss ideas from looking at the camera screen as we go. It also allows me to provide both black and white and colour images from each image.

What are your panoramic images?
These images are just like the other ones, except that they are taken on a long, landscape camera that uses medium-format film. The portraits tend to be more formal and the images can be enlarged, while retaining fabulous detail. This service is offered separately and can be explained further over the phone or when I visit you.

Your Images
As far as I am concerned photography is not about producing a technically perfect image: any camera these days can do that. I am most interested in capturing you and your family afresh, in seeing things in your family that you don't see and in finding new ways of seeing. I aim to show you familiar and affectionate aspects of your family that you might have forgotten, as well as sides of your children that might surprise you.
